BCC-Railway Cables

Mass transit is a safety-critical business and the ability to reliably communicate between stations, signals and trains is a crucial factor. From knowing the exact location of each train on the track, to communicating arrival and departure times to the waiting passengers, BT Cables provides the infrastructure cabling required for these highly advanced systems to operate. As a world leader in cable manufacturing for the rail industries, we understand the factors involved in providing solutions that deliver outstanding performance and reliability. What’s more, technical support is readily available from our specialist team. They are there to assist with technical specification, legislation and new regulations enquiries.

The British Cables Company Railway Telecom portfolio compromises of Trackside Communication Cables as per NR/PS/TEL/00015, Axle Counter Cables as per NR/L2/SIG/30060 and Twin Datalink Cables as per BR1932.

Copper trackside cable is widely used in rail telecoms applications and manufactured against NR/PS/TEL/00015. They are suitable for installation in trackside concrete cable troughing or buried cable ducting. Direct burial installations are possible using corrugated steel tape armoured variants.

The range is also available with Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) compounds which are suited to internal public areas where reduction in the volume of smoke and acid gas evolution is essential, i.e. tunnels and platforms.

Axle counter cables are used to connect the track-side axle counters, which are usually positioned at intervals of between 1 and 3km, to the central monitoring system for determining train presence, direction of travel and number of carriages.

The applicable standard is NR/L2/SIG/30060.

Twin Data Link Cable is designed primarily for external deployment in railway environments as the interconnecting cable for Solid State Interlocking (SSI) Systems. It is manufactured in accordance with Network Rail Specification BR1932 (Dec 1987). The cable is deployed in troughing or by direct burial. In the latter case, the thickness of the outer sheath is increased.
